Helpful Tips For a Safer and More Enjoyable Trail Jogging Experience
by Valik Rudd
Jogging is one of most popular exercises because it doesn't only provide a lot of health benefits but it is also fun and engaging. One could also lose weight and relieve stress by jogging regularly.
There are many ways to enjoy jogging depending on one's need and preference. One could jog using gym equipment or jog in place in the comfort and safety of home. If one loves to breathe fresh air and meet fellow joggers one could jog in the park or on flat pavements outdoors. However, if one is already an experienced jogger and jogging in the park or in the road has become very easy and quite boring, there is one challenging and exhilarating alternative that is trail jogging. This type of jogging normally takes place on hiking trails that are usually inaccessible by road such as mountains, hills, deserts, forests, and places with narrow passages; hence it is quite common for a trail jogger to jog on steep paths and tracks that ascend and descend thousands of feet. Given the said characteristics one could readily tell that this type of jogging is not suitable for inexperienced joggers considering that it is physically demanding and quite risky. Below are some helpful tips to ensure that one gets the most out of trail jogging while lessening the risk of danger:
- Jog on a trail that is most suitable to one's fitness level. For those who are newly trying out this type of jogging they should first jog on flat trails and try to gradually get used to it to lessen if not totally eliminate the probability of injury. For those who are more experienced and more used to a similar activity they may opt to jog on more difficult trails such as hilly or rocky terrain.
- As much as possible, jog with a friend or have a jogging buddy. A lot of accidents could happen on hilly, mountainous, rocky trails and it would be more prudent to have someone who could readily help or at least call for help when unfortunate things happen.
- If one has to run alone, he should inform a dependable significant other of his location as well as expected time of departure and arrival. One should also carry some form of identification and if possible select a location that is still reachable by cell phone so that one could carry and use it in case of emergency.
- One should pace himself by running shorter distances as this type of jogging is tougher to the body than jogging on a flat surface.
- One should always be alert and attentive of his surroundings so that he could be ready if something will come from behind like a bear or other animals. It would also be safer to avoid listening to music when jogging.
- One should be extra careful when jogging downhill considering that a lot of accidents happen particularly if one cannot control his speed.
- One should wear appropriate attire for this type of jogging to ensure comfort and safety. Invest on specially designed shoes for trail joggers as this will give the best stability and protection especially on uneven terrain. Wear clothes made of lightweight and moisture-resistant fiber to keep cool.
Remember to consider all the above mentioned tips when planning to embark on this form of jogging to ensure not only a more pleasurable but a safer jogging experience as well.
