Running Track and Field - The 3 Most Common Mistakes When Trying to Run Your Best Mile!
by Brendon Carter
When trying to run your best mile in high school or at the college level, there's a few mistakes that runners do when running the mile. However, the race may be only four laps around the track though it requires some critical thinking in order to succeed at running the mile. If you're only trying to break the five-minute barrier or even try to run a sub four-minute mile you definitely want to read this article and learn from the mistakes that I have made.
The first common mistake is going out too fast for your first 400 m when running 1600 m. There are times when you start the race and you get over excited and you go out too fast which at the end you will pay for it. Sometimes you can get over excited because the crowd or maybe it's a big event and you just get too excited. When running your first lap you definitely want to pace yourself and run within the level of confidence you have.
The second most common mistake is not running your race and running the other person's race. This can happen without you even knowing because you see another runner running faster, so you try to run with that person. By running with this person you don't have any idea the runners training regime over the past week. Normally, this runner would have trained very hard and can sustain a faster pace.
The third most common mistake in trying to run your best mile ever is saving all your energy for the last lap. When you tend to save your energy to run your last lap faster you end up running a slower time. When trying to run your best mile ever you want to set a nice fast pace which can be sustainable over four laps.
If you correct these simple mistakes than you definitely be able to run your best mile ever. These mistakes seemed very simple though by correcting them you can definitely improve your time over the course of your track and field season.
