Basics of Running Barefoot
by Michael Sandler
Running barefoot is the basic of running that has been with us since long ago when shoes were not invented yet.
Lately, the popularity of barefoot running has come to rise again mainly because of the best selling book "Born to Run" created by Christopher McDougall. This book is all about barefoot running which link it with the mystical marathon lifestyle from one of the tribe in Mexico which is the Tarahumara.
This phenomenal barefoot running is the main reason why more and more people became interested in seminars regarding barefoot coaching as well as different footwear model which is barefoot-like shoes. Though no barefoot runners are featured recently in the P.F. Chang's Rock 'N' Roll Arizona Marathon, still more people are becoming curious about this phenomenal sports.
The trend can also be link to the wide varieties of expensive shoes that are expensive because they spend so much spending on favorite models to make their shoe products popular. One fan of barefoot running, Andrew Holtum from Phoenix said: "The trend of running shoes changes everyday. One day, you think that you got the best running shoes and the other day you notice that you're wrong".
Advocates stated that running without shoes has its advantages like there's a lower chance of getting injuries because there is a reduced impact from wearing shoes at the same time it produces more efficient gait.Patty Egan, from Cave Creek is a teacher in physical education who trains her students in barefoot running. She is also a coach of a team of runners who runs barefoot at the Cactus Shadows High School.
She said that she instructed her trainee kids to run in a football field, where there's a nice grass, as their workout. The distance for this workout is 200 to 1,000 meters. Shoes have disadvantages caused to our feet like weakening our small muscles, ligaments and tendons due to the restriction done by the shoes. Running barefoot, in a continuous manner strengthens our foot and at the same time gives us a remarkable thrill and excitement.
Running barefooted also gives us the feeling of being free to anything that we want to express or do. It maybe uncommon or even weird, but the feeling that you can get from doing it cannot be traded to anywhere in the world. You should try it and see it for your self the feeling of being totally free, which you can only taste from being bare footed.
