Why Choose Good Value Brand Kooga Rugby Balls

Today rugby is a popular sports game and you can find rugby equipment almost anywhere. Shorts, boots, balls, even protective gear come in a wide variety of shapes, colours and designs. You can buy good value Kooga rugby balls in any online or high-street shop but have you ever thought about the origin of this simple equipment which as it turns out wasn't so simple to make? Even if you haven't, here's a short overview of its history.
Richard Lindon and William Gilbert were the first to start making balls for rugby schools. The two men used to own boot and shoe making businesses and turned their skills to the making of balls for boys from rugby schools. They made rugby balls from hand-stitched, four-panel leather casings and pig bladders. Rugby balls including high quality Kooga balls owe their distinctive oval shape to the pig's bladder.
In those early days it was necessary to ask for volunteers to inflate the ball for it was not a job that was sought after. The pig's bladder would be blown up by lung power down the snapped stem of a clay pipe which was inserted into the opening of the bladder. The size and shape of the ball was not written into the rules until 1892 and there is no record as to when the ball became less round and more oval in shape.
Pig bladders eventually fell out of favour once vulcanised rubber was invented and Richard Lindon paved the way for their use by creating both rubber bladders and a hand pump to inflate them. Thanks to the greater control over vulcanised rubber and its manufacture, rugby balls began to take on a more uniform shape with size conventions eventually being laid down by the sports governing bodies.
Despite the use of cod oil and tallow, the leather casing was prone to water damage and was replaced by all-weather synthetic materials in the 1980s. The modern rugby ball like the good value Kooga ball is a real hi tech product made from polyurethane, synthetic leather, laminated polyester, latex and glue. It's designed to keep its shape and withstand the rigours of the game. It is also aerodynamically tested to ensure it travels in the air as long as possible in a perfectly straight trajectory.
So how else has the technology for making rugby balls including the high quality Kooga ball changed? The basic stitching techniques involved in ball making are still much the same as in the early days. Waxed thread is used to hand-stitch the panels together. The balls are stitched inside out with five or six stitches left loose to enable the ball to be turned the right way and finished with a new thread.
Today the making of rugby balls like good value Kooga balls has become much easier bearing in mind all the newest technology available to manufacturers. Although the materials and technology have changed, the rugby ball has remained the same, but it has become much faster and has acquired a number of outstanding features.
